Polo
is said to have originated in 2000 B.C. in the mountainous
terrains of Asia. The game was brought to India
by the Mughals. India has been called the 'cradle
of modern Polo' and Jaipur, the nerve centre of Polo
in India. Jaipur has the best facilities for horse
polo, lots of sunlight, good dry weather and large grounds.
The best season to play horse polo is between September and
March. Sawai Man Singh, the last Maharaja of Jaipur
was one of the best polo players in India, and is said to
have had over 200 polo ponies of his own.
Located amidst Arravali hills on the outskirts of
Jaipur, is the Ramgarh Resorts & Polo Complex, run
by His Highness Shriji Arvind Singh Mewar, the 76th
custodian of the House of Mewar. His Highness Shriji
Arvind Singh Mewar is universally acknowledged as the person
responsible for the revival of Indian Polo in the 1980s.
The
Polo Complex has been the home of Indian Polo for almost a
century and is managed by Princess Bhargavi Mewar and
Lokendra Singh Rathore.The Polo Complex is conveniently
located, just 40 minutes away from the pink city.
